Verse of the Day
"Do what God's teaching says; don't just listen and do nothing. When you only sit and listen, you are fooling yourselves." James 1:22 ERV
Lesson of the Day
Let's look back at the August 26, 2026, lesson. Remember the list of things we need to do to walk in the Spirit? We already discussed loving God with all of your heart, soul, and mind. Now let's talk about reading and studying God's Word daily. The Bible is our guiding light. It is better than a compass because it is alive. It is called the living Word because it is God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit speaking to us. As children of God, we need to understand Him, His ways, and what He expects from us. Otherwise, how can we call ourselves Christians, Believers, and God's children if we don't even know Him or know what we are actually believing in? That's why it is important to read and study God's Word daily.
We study the Bible:
- So that we won't sin against God — Psalm 119:11.
- To know God's nature
- Scripture reveals God's holiness, mercy, justice, and love.
- To build a relationship with God.
- Reading the Bible is like reading a personal letter from God.
- It helps believers draw closer to God.
- To nourish our faith
- We need God's Word in order to mature.
- Just like we need food to be healthy, we need to read the Bible to stay spiritually healthy.
- To gain wisdom
- Studying the Bible helps us make good choices and live with discernment.
- For guidance
- It offers practical instructions for navigating tough choices.
- It helps navigate everyday challenges.
- For protection
- Helps us recognize false ideas.
- Helps us stay grounded in the truth.
- For comfort
- Offers comfort during hard times.
- Offers comfort during times of grief.
- For hope
- The past miracles and future hope in the Bible keep us confident in God's faithfulness.
We must not only read and study God's Word, we must do what it says as well. If we just read the Bible and not do what it says, we are fooling ourselves. Even the devil and his demons know the Bible.
Encouragement
If you aren't much of a reader, I get it. I'm not one either. I use the YouVersion app to read through the Bible. They have great lesson plans to help guide you, and you can even listen to the scriptures. I promise you that you won't regret reading it. You'll grow spiritually and you will desire to not just read the Word, but do as it instructs, as well.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, Your character shines in Your Word. Your love shines through it, Your mercy is evident, and Your reputation is like no other. Thank You for Your guidance, support, and wisdom. Thank You for making an account of the past, present, and future. Lead us to the righteousness of Christ. Help us find the right path to take each day. Forgive us for the times when we took Your Word for granted. Renew our minds. Give us clean hearts so that we may serve You. In Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.
