Verse of the Day
"Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good. His faithful love continues forever."
Psalm 107:1 NIRV
Lesson of the Day
Today, we will focus on a prayer of thanksgiving. A prayer of thanksgiving is a time to thank God for who He is, what He has done, and the blessings He has given us.
The Bible teaches us to give thanks in every situation. First Thessalonians 5:18 ERV says:
"Whatever happens, always be thankful. This is how God wants you to live in Christ Jesus."
This does not mean that we must be thankful for every painful or difficult circumstance. Instead, it means that we can continue to thank God during difficult times because He is faithfully there to help us through whatever we face.
We can thank God for His love, protection, provision, forgiveness, guidance, and faithfulness. We can also thank God for the people, opportunities, and daily blessings in our lives. James 1:17 ERV says:
"Everything good comes from God."
Every good gift we receive ultimately comes from Him.
Thanksgiving also helps us remember what God has already done. When we are worried or discouraged, remembering His faithfulness can strengthen our faith. Psalm 77:11–12 reminds us to remember God's works and think about the amazing things He has done.
Remember, we spoke about Philippians 4:6 ERV, which reminds us to always give thanks when praying:
"Don't worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks for what you have."
We can bring our needs to God while thanking Him for His presence, care, and faithfulness.
A prayer of thanksgiving does not mean that everything is easy or that we are thankful for every difficult circumstance. It means that even during difficult times, we can remember that God is with us and that His faithful love continues forever.
Encouragement
When we pray, we can include all the different types of prayer. There are no set prayers that we must pray. However, some prayers may focus on a specific subject or situation. For instance, we can find lists of Scriptures online that we can pray when asking God for healing or help with other situations.
Our goal is to learn that there are many ways to pray. We are not required to use a certain type of prayer every time we pray. We can simply say, "Good morning, Lord," and that is a prayer.
I have found that a prayer of thanksgiving is easy because God has done so much for us. When I pray a thanksgiving prayer, I always feel so full of the Spirit. I do not even feel the need to ask Him for anything because He has already done so much for me, and I know that He will continue to bless me. This is not because of anything I have done; it is simply who He is.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:11 ERV:
"You people are so bad, but you still know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him."
I have found that God gives me gifts when I ask, and sometimes I do not even have to ask. So, let's thank God for all that He has done.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we want to thank You for all that You have done and all that You will do.
Thank You for salvation. Thank You for life. Thank You for the air we breathe. Thank You for food and shelter. Thank You that many of us can walk, talk, hear, smell, taste, and feel.
You provide for us, Lord, and You give us security, Father. We cannot thank You enough. Even those of us who cannot do everything we have named still have You. Having You, God, means that we have all we truly need.
You get us through every storm. You prepare a way for us, and You comfort us when we need comforting. Lord, we know that not everything in our lives is perfect, but You are perfect. One day, when we are with You, we will be made perfect.
So, we simply want to say, "Thank You."
In Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.
