Verse of the Day
"So stand strong with the belt of truth tied around your waist, and on your chest wear the protection of right living." Ephesians 6:14 ERV
Lesson of the Day
Remember I told you that Paul compares the armor of God to the Roman soldier's uniform. Well, the Roman soldiers wore a loinbelt. The loinbelt was an important piece, because it held all of the other parts together and it protected the soldier's loin. That tells us that the belt of truth holds our Christian walk together. It is the truth that sets us free. The other aspects of the armor of God are all resting on the truth.
Now the Roman soldiers wore a breastplate. The loinbelt wrapped all around the breastplate and held it in place. This breastplate was the heaviest piece. It covered the front and back of the soldier from the neck to the knees. The breastplate of righteousness covers us in the same way. That righteousness is straight from Jesus. It is His righteousness that we're wearing. If we don't have Jesus's righteousness, we don't have salvation. It protects our hearts and gives us a weapon against the enemy. Let me explain, the soldier's breastplate was shiny, and when the sun shined on it, it blinded their enemies. In a similar way, as God's children, we reflect Jesus's power in the face of the enemy.
Encouragement
We are covered by the truth that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and gave us His righteousness. That truth has set us free and given us a right to be God's children. This is a glorious truth that we now have. Rejoice and be glad in it.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, what a wonderful God You are. Thank You for Your righteousness. Without You, we would be lost and separated from You forever. We couldn't bear to be without You Lord. You are the air that we breathe. Guide us each day as we put on our belt of truth and breastplate of righteousness. Help us to walk in Your truth and to ward off the enemy with our breastplate of righteousness. In Jesus Christ's name I pray, amen.
